Contract Associate Technical Writer

Kiva Systems LLC is a rapidly growing Boston area robotics company that is revolutionizing supply chain operations. The Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System uses hundreds of mobile robots to automate distribution centers, dramatically increasing both productivity and flexibility. Our customers are national retailers, large catalog operators, e-commerce and other companies that ship direct to consumers, businesses and retail stores.

Kiva is seeking a Contract Associate Technical Writer to document internal and customer-facing technical documentation. You will learn and master the Kiva Mobile-robotic Fulfillment System and its management applications, work closely with diverse groups within Kiva to gather information about new software features, and develop accurate and effective customer documentation, all while following established style and process guidelines.

This position is located at Kiva World Headquarters in North Reading, MA, and reports directly to the Technical Publications Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write and maintain detailed internal reference and deployment documentation.
  • Write and maintain customer facing software and hardware documentation. 
  • Manage projects and track deadlines, reprioritizing when necessary. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional team members to design and develop accurate and complete documentation. 
  • Manage and monitor the technical review of each deliverable, taking proactive steps when necessary.
  • Interview subject matter experts and generate penetrating questions. 

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication. 
  • Highly motivated and self-directed with demonstrated experience in advancing multiple concurrent projects from concept to delivery. 
  • Ability to learn and master complex software and hardware products. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 2+ years software and/or hardware Technical Writing experience. 
  • Experience following corporate style and standards guidelines.
  • Experience writing customer-facing documentation for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience writing internal documentation for an advanced audience.
  • Experience with Author-it or similar authoring tool.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word templates and styles.

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Technical Writing, or related field.
