This course will involve several pre-announced quizzes designed to periodically check your mastery of the course material. A tentative schedule for the quizzes is included on the Schedule page. Please note, however, that I reserve the right to alter the dates of quizzes in order to better suit the developing needs of the course. Any changes to the quiz schedule will be announced verbally at the beginning of lecture at least one week in advance of the change. At my discretion, changes may also be announced in writing on the What’s New page of this Web site.
Most quizzes will be given in class. These quizzes will begin precisely at the scheduled start of lecture and be timed. If you arrive late for a quiz, you will be allowed only the balance of the allocated time to take the quiz. Generally, you may expect these quizzes to consist of primarily of short answer questions, such as true-false, fill-in-the-blank and/or multiple choice.
Quizzes will not necessarily all contribute equally to your overall grade. In particular, the longer, problem-oriented quizzes are likely to count for more points than the shorter, in-class quizzes.
I will drop the lowest quiz grade at the end of the semester.
